Course outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Know your tools — explain what UiPath IXP is and identify which capability (Communications Mining, Generative Extraction, or Document Understanding) fits a given business scenario
✅
Handle structured & semi-structured docs — build a Document Understanding taxonomy and configure classification and extraction using Form Extractor, RegEx Extractor, and out-of-the-box or custom ML extractors
✅
Handle complex, unstructured docs — configure Generative Classifier and Extractor activities in Studio, and build, evaluate, and publish a full IXP Generative Extraction project
✅
Automate it — consume trained DU and IXP models in UiPath Studio workflows, and use the DU Process Template to speed up new automation projects
✅
Run it in production — monitor processing performance via the Monitor dashboard, and apply human-in-the-loop validation with confidence-threshold best practices
Before you begin
Make sure you have the following before starting the course.
Prerequisites
- Basic understanding of UiPath Studio and RPA concepts
- UiPath Studio connected to Automation Cloud (with a valid license)
- Access to UiPath Automation Cloud tenant with Document Understanding service enabled
- For IXP exercises: IXP service added to your tenant (tenant admin required)
- Familiarity with basic document types (invoices, forms, contracts)
How to connect Studio to Automation Cloud: Open UiPath Studio → Sign In → enter your Automation Cloud tenant URL. Your orchestrator connection will activate your license automatically.

What is Document Understanding?
UiPath Document Understanding overview — document types, processing methodologies, taxonomy, classification, extraction, validation, and confidence scores.

Module 03
Exercise 1: Structured documents
Hands-on exercise: extract data from structured documents using Form Extractor (Form 1040X) and Regex Extractor (Vehicle Damage Report) using Intelligent OCR activities.
